Dental Training & Education

Dr. Cavallo received his dental degree (DDS) from West Virginia University in 1980. Upon graduation, he entered the USAF as a commissioned officer in the Dental Corp. During his five years on active duty, he had the opportunity to complete a 2-year clinical rotation in fixed prosthetics. In 1985, he left active duty and opened his office in Lake Ridge, VA.

So that he can provide superior dental care, Dr. Cavallo is passionate about advanced education. He is an alumnus of the prestigious L.D.Pankey Institute and world-renowned Dawson Center for Advanced Education. There are only 42 Pankey-educated dentists and 19 Dawson dentists in the state of Virginia. The philosophy taught by these institutions is that the entire oral musculatory system must function properly to have successful dental treatment outcomes. Many dentists will treat teeth without considering if your teeth are coming together properly. Analysis of how your jaw and joints function is not typically examined prior to developing treatment plans. This approach most often leads to failed dental treatment.

His pursuit of education remains constant. Over the past years, he has earned his Fellowship in the Academy of General Dentistry in 2006 and his Mastership in 2017. Fellows and Masters of the Academy of General Dentistry follow a lifelong pursuit of continuing education to provide the highest quality of dental care to patients. These awards represent Dr. Cavallo having spent over 1700 hours of education involving 16 disciplines in dentistry. You are assured the finest quality of dentistry and care.

cavallo awards and credentials

Dr. Cavallo has placed and restored implants for over 20 years. He was one of the few dentists included in the DENTSPLY International Implant Conference in 2013 and continues to keep up to date on innovative techniques. Currently, Dr. Cavallo is participating in a 9-month course with the American Academy of Implant Dentistry. This course includes 300 hours of lectures, laboratory, live surgical, and clinical experiences placing implants.

While professionally committed to his education, he is equally committed to giving back to his community and abroad. As a member of the Medical Missionaries team, he spends a couple of weeks annually serving the needs of the Haitian community of Banica, Haiti. He has developed and established a hygiene program for the children of Banica in an effort to educate the youth and their families about dental hygiene. During his time in Banica, crowds waited outside the clinic for the rare opportunity to have abscessed teeth extracted and infections managed due to a lack of education and neglect.

Through is Catholic affiliations, he routinely provides dental care to the less fortunate and underprivileged in his office. Giving back is so very important to Dr. Cavallo.
